We have a few things on the go right now.
On Friday, the network was down so we were unable to continue with the video from Thursday and moved on to a creative writing piece. I explained to the class that Dr. Seuss wrote How the Grinch Stole Christmas because he was upset with all the bother of Christmas and his way of dealing with it was to create a character that epitomized those feelings. Students started writing about something that they didn't like or that bothered them and possible solutions (realistic or fictional).
We did not have LA Monday due to the early dismissal.
Today, we rewatched the TED Talk from Thursday and students had to answer three questions to be passed in. Anyone that did not finish this in class (in the 10 minutes we had) are to finish it for homework. The three questions:
1) How are "rules" of speaking different for a demonstration than a formal speech?
2) What did you find the most interesting about the video clip?
3) What could he have done differently to make it easier to understand or more interesting?
Anyone that finished the three questions in class continued with their Grinch writing.
I am out tomorrow. Students will be working on another creative writing piece (and finishing up the Grinch piece). We will be in the computer lab on Thursday to continue typing the survey results and the letters for the Great Canadian Mail Race.
